The Draco ceiling lamp stands out from other lighting designs with its circular stratification form, carefully calculated ratios, and captivating light perspective. The designer's intention was to create a lighting fixture that not only illuminates a space but also serves as a decorative piece.
The lamp is composed of three different outer shell materials and a light-transmitting white Plexiglas material. These materials can be connected to each other using thin wires and hung via an electrical cable. The choice of materials for the outer shell can be customized according to personal preference, allowing for a versatile design.
With a total height of 400 mm and a diameter of 160 mm, the Draco ceiling lamp features a strip light band that is 370 mm in height and 20 mm in width. The designer has incorporated the golden ratio in the lamp's height and diameter, adding a sense of harmony and balance to the design.
The design process for Draco began with the designer's childhood fascination with the curves and dimensions of vampire costumes seen in movies. The inclusion of the golden proportion further enhanced the design, resulting in a visually pleasing and aesthetically balanced lighting fixture.
One of the main challenges faced during the design process was applying the golden proportion to the circular shell. The proportions had to be both mathematically accurate and visually appealing. Extensive calculations and tests were conducted to ensure the desired outcome.
The Draco ceiling lamp was designed in Istanbul between January and February of 2017. The combination of curves, circular forms, and the golden ratio resulted in a decorative lighting design that can enhance any space. Whether used in residential or commercial settings, Draco offers a unique lighting experience that captivates with its play of light and form.
